I must admit from the very beginning I have never really taken care of my skin at all. My makeup artists always scold me for sleeping with my makeup on,
in my defence my first email usually goes out at 5am and my last bit of research can go up until 2am most days (and that is if I am not shooting 14hrs into 14hrs).
Last year I started noticing my skin was getting a bit drier and rougher than usually. I use to be able to just put on whatever cream is at hand and it's fine but it was not working as well. As the Universe would have it my Fiance was doing some work for a South African skincare company called Dermistem. They had given him a few products which I borrowed, and I really saw a visible difference to my skin and dark circles. He asked if he could introduce me to the owners, and I, of course, said yes.
When I walked into Dermistem it was a match made in heaven, I genuinely hit it off with both owners Jerome and Aseyah. I absolutely LOVE local and skincare was as I said not something I had paid special attention too, so was very impressed that there was this South African brand making strides in SA beauty technology by utilising plant stem cell technology and other all natural methods.
After a few treatments at Dermistem I asked if I could meet with them. I explained to them that I would like to create something that would work on all skin types, colours across the globe. Something that would give my skin intense hydration and nutrients. The catch was that I also needed something I could apply before my makeup. I film live tv, I am going full energy under hot lights, sometimes if I put cream on just before my makeup, it melts faster. I also wanted something that would not leave a distinctive smell. It also had to be unisex. We had our work cut out for us.
After countless hours of research, work, and lab time we had the first sample of the first product. To me it was absolutely perfect. We had created a priming serum. RossindxDermistem or #RxDskin to be exact. Every aspect that I needed for the range was there and so so much more. From thousand-year-old Glacial water imported from the Alps to the fact it leaves no residue or lingering fragrance once the healing refreshing naartjie (This is SA) aroma is absorbed, its gone. It is also auto adaptive, which as I have learnt means it adapts to your skin and the climate. We tested one or two more versions and settled on the best one.
That was however not the only good news, the owners of Dermistem asked if I would consider joining the company as Marketing Director and the entrepreneur in me could not say no. After how smoothly everything was running, it was almost unbelievable when we were given the opportunity to showcase both my RosslindxDermistem (#RxDskin) range as well as Diamond, Dermistem's new premium range from the 4th to the 6th of April 2017 at In-Cosmetics Global in London as well as the skin and beauty expo in SA later this year.
Now I sit year after more than a year of prep nervous for my new baby's first run. I do not think I have ever kept a secret this long
