"When one door closes, another opens," but sometimes we spend so much time staring at it and mourning over the closed door that we don't see the open one or realise we can simply open a window.
2016 was my year of the last lesson, or at least the last year I will learn this particular lesson - I am a sucker for punishment.
This year, I got burnt helping someone else's business - again, In almost the exact same way as I had a few years back. When it happened the first time I had made myself all the usual promises,
1. I would stop being so emotionally invested in the people I do business with,
2. I would ensure that I have contracts in place and would not go against my gut instincts.
I never followed through - and did all of the above again and find myself sitting in almost the exact same mess. There is another saying that goes something like; "you will continue to go through the same negative experiences till you have learnt the lesson you are meant to" - Ms Universe - I have learnt my lesson.
Another favourite saying of mine is; "the Universe applauds action not thought" which basically means you have to actually get up and actively change the things you want things to be different. Like I said in my "Fresh Water" post no mater how much of your energy has been taken, you can change it. You can steer course in a different direction. With that in mind I drew up my contracts for 2017 protecting myself from having my resources and intellectual property stolen and created an entirely new team of people to work with under contract.
I closed doors close for a reason.
The frustrating part is that most times you don't understand why, until the heartache stops and you see things with a positive perspective.
We are so obsessed with perfection, that when something goes in such a way that we never expected it to, or wrong in our eyes in some way, we look at it as a failure not as a life lesson or change of direction. If we all got everything that we wanted, when we wanted it we would never end up where we are destined to.
I truly believe we are all meant for great things in all the various fields and paths life has to offer. We just have to do it with integrity and empathy. Which is why it is so important to remember, that when something goes wrong or we have to start from scratch all over again and again and again - that it never stops us from starting over and moving in the direction of our greatness.
2016 has made me appreciate the closed doors and 2017 has me ready to walk through new ones.
