I suppose this is more for the peeps in the creative industry esp. Cape Town who make online content, although I suppose you find this copy paste mentality spreading everywhere.
We live in a world where we are bombarded with information 24/7. We never truly shut down. This means it is really easy for everthing and everyone to start looking and sounding the same.
I think that as people we should always try to be as authentic a version of ourselves as possible. This to me is enlightenment. If we spend our lives trying to be carbon copies of other people we lose the essence of who we are. What makes us great and our true purpose. The more time you spend trying to recreate something someone has worked hard to create the less time you have to create something that is truly you.
It is time we are so confident in ourselves and our message to the world that it cannot resemble anything else from someone else because it is authentically us. I just feel like each of us is here for a very important reason, and although society is a little crazy at the moment we should still try and chart the unique course we are meant too.
Stalk profiles for inspiration, not crew and designers. Put down the copy paste mentality and put the work in by doing more research, finding new inspiration and create. If you use reference add your own touch, it should never be exact. Use different creatives, mediums, collaborations, brands etc. SA is a hub of creatives, yet in Cape Town I see the same people all working with the same people, churning out similar vibes all the time.
How does your work grow if you base it on compiling as many people as possible from the team of the person you are trying to copy. We all have a signature. I hope those who have been with me since Girls At Play.Tv cira '09 can tell my style or vibe a mile away even if its not me rocking it.
Do research further than who your fave blogger, celeb or influencer is wearing, being photographed by or is seen at. Make your own mark. Create your own vibe. Set your own standard. It is not easy, the research it takes to find new crew, designers and creatives that are not over used and exposed is tough but you can. Most time I only work with photographers who have photographed no on I know or wear designers no one I know has worn.
Like I said in my previous post "Legacy is more important then like" Be a creative lioness not a copy cat.
We leave our creative fingerprint on what we do so choose wisely what fingerprints touch your creative soul.
